I decided to come to the Point Park Journalism workshop because I wanted to further my learning about the field of journalism. I knew I had not learned very much about reporter style writing, communications media, or broadcasting at all but I was interested and wanted to dive into this world.
This first step in doing this has been a great experience and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. The busy days keep you on your feet learning something new almost every hour, and the program really encourages students to access their individuality and write about what they care about. You have the chance to do something you never get to do in school and that is you can literally write about anything that is worth telling a story about. You get to talk to others who can relate or improve your story, collaborate with professionals in the field, and even talk to random people on the street to get their take on whatever you are writing about.
This whole program encourages growth and maturity allowing teens to take that first whiff of college and see how you are going to actually be learning in a couple of years. Mixed in with fun events and talented students this whole program displays professionalism and demands the best in all participants, not only in their writing but in how they portray themselves as young adults. I highly recommend it and believe it was an experience that changed my mindset on the world of journalism and inspired me to continue pursuing something in that field or similar to it.
